Background:

Akamai is a Hawaiian word meaning smart or skilled. Akamai surf school teaches surfing the Akamai way, providing our students with a fun and safe time in the ocean. We have broken down the surfing experience into different parts that when integrated enable people of all ages to progress rapidly. Students will learn to judge the ocean, catch waves and ride them successfully. The thrill of catching and riding a wave is almost impossible to describe. Instructors:

Every one of the AkaMai instructors are outgoing, avid surfers with an intimate knowledge of the ocean. They provide students with a solid education on local sea life, ocean currents and the "rules of the road" in the surf to ensure students' safety. All of our instructors are CPR certified. The school is located adjacent to a tower staffed by the Del Mar Lifeguard Department. The Del Mar Lifeguards have one of the best safety records in California.

 

 

Pete Reese's Bio:

The founder of Akamai Surf School is Pete Reese. A resident of Del Mar since the late sixties, Pete has been surfing at the beaches of Del Mar and around the world for over thirty-five years. A private math tutor for the past twenty years, Pete has the unique ability to combine his love of the ocean with his education background to instill in students of all ages the thrill of surfing.
